Pastor John A. Wilson is the spiritual and visionary leader of the Macedonia Baptist Church located in Newport News, Virginia. He is a gifted teacher, anointed preacher, and loving pastor who is rooted in the word. He was licensed in the Gospel Ministry in August 1987 and ordained in August 1989 under the leadership of the former Senior Pastor of this church, Reverend Alfred A. Terrell, Sr. He is married to Deaconess Fay Wilson; and they have two wonderful adult children, Valerie and Timothy.
Reverend Wilson is a native of Stockton, Maryland. He received his childhood education in the Worcester County School System, and continued his education at the University of Maryland – Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in May 1974. He served as an Officer in United States Air Force for several years before moving to Hampton, Virginia.
Reverend Wilson received his early Christian education at St. John’s Holiness Church in Stockton, Maryland. While serving in the military, he realized the need for spirit-filled, totally committed life in Jesus. He rededicated his life to God and invited Jesus to be Lord of his life. He continued his Christian education by completing Youth Leadership Training and other Bible training. He began his work in the ministry by serving as the Vice-President of the Yongsan Gospel Service Council in Seoul, Korea. He later served as the Youth Director for the Protestant Chapel Service at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Reverend Wilson became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in 1987. He has served as Youth Minister, Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Assistant Pastor. He became Interim-Pastor in November 2003 after the passing of Reverend Terrell and was installed as Pastor in March 2006.
Reverend Wilson is saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit. He is determined to let the light of salvation shine in my life; and tell others of God’s rich and powerful love. He is a member of the:
- Unity Baptist Ministers Conference of Hampton-Newport News, Virginia where he serves President of the organization.
- United Christian Brotherhood, Tidewater Area of Virginia.
